Dear Colleagues!
As President of the American Association of Equine Practitioners I had the distinct honor and pleasure of having a wonderful visit with my good friend, Dr. Sergio Salinas at Eqcovet Equine Hospital and the AMMVEE in Guanajuato for their annual meeting. Dr. Gary Norwood, President of the World Equine Veterinary Association, and I were also asked to provide a one-day lecture/live animal laboratory the day before the AMMVEE meeting. That was very well attended. Dr. Norwood did a super job of describing the various joint injection techniques as well as working with the attendees.
Dr. Sergio Salinas’s Equine Hospital is incredible to say the least. It is in a perfect setting, very well equipped, and a wonderful design. It is comparable to any of the great equine hospitals that I have seen world-wide. Dr. Salinas was also an incredible host along with other colleagues and friends at AMMVEE. The speakers and topics presented were outstanding. Guanajuato is and was a perfect setting for such a meeting. The beauty of the area, architecture and history is fantastic.
Prior to the visit with Dr. Salinas and AMMVEE I attended the British Equine Veterinary Association meeting in Liverpool, UK followed by two days in Ireland with Dr. Des Leadon. It is very apparent that regardless of the country and region the down turn in the economy has negatively affected the horse industry and thus equine practitioners world-wide. Having the privilege of being able to share information, problems, and hopefully solutions with equine practitioner colleagues throughout the world is essential. Animal welfare issues, ethical behavior, and business related issues will only increase in an economic down turn.
It is my hope that our friends and colleagues throughout Latin American will be able to attend AAEP’s 57th Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas. This all-inclusive event begins on November the 18th through the 22nd, www.aaep.org/convention.htm. On behalf of the AAEP thank you all for a wonderful educational experience in Mexico!
