In the United Arab Emirates, 10 Australian-bred gallopers will contest feature races at the weekend’s Dubai World Cup meeting at Meydan.
- 5YO gelding & Singapore’s highest-rated galloper Rocket Man (Viscount-Macrosa, by McGinty) will contest the US$2 million Gr1 Golden Shaheen (1200m) in which he finished runner-up last year; Rocket Man was a $70,000 yearling bred by Dean Fleming & consigned by Tyreel Stud at the 2007 Magic Millions National Sale. Also contesting this race is 6YO gelding Dynamic Blitz (Elusive Quality-Assertive Lass) who was a $1.4 million yearling at the 2006 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney.
- Last year’s UAE Derby winner Musir (Redoute’s Choice-Dizzy De Lago, by Encosta De Lago) will contest the US$10 million Gr1 Dubai World Cup (2000m); Musir was passed-in for $900,000 as a yearling at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney.
- The US$5 million Gr1 Dubai Duty Free (1800m) will be contested by Singapore’s 2010 Champion 3YO & Champion Miler Better Than Ever (French Deputy-Songfest, by Unbridled’s Song) who was a NZ$80,000 yearling at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka. Joining him in the field will be last year’s UAE Derby runner-up & now 4YO mare Raihana (Elusive Quality-Esubooh, by Sunday Silence); Raihana was retained to race by her breeder Sheikh Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, who purchased her unraced dam Esubooh (Sunday Silence-Felicitation, by Danehill) at the 2003 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney for $350,000.
- The US$1 million Gr2 Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) will feature globe-trotting & Gr1-winning Australian-bred 7YO gelding War Artist (Orpen-Royal Solitaire, by Brocco) who was a $57,500 yearling consigned by Attunga Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions January Gold Coast Sale. Also in this field is 4YO gelding & former Melbourne galloper Better Be The One (More Than Ready-Common Smytzer, by Snippets) who was a $485,000 yearling consigned by Makybe at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney & originally raced in Australia as Common Interest.
- The US$1 million Gr2 Godolphin Mile (1600m) will include South African Gr1-winning 5YO entire Le Drakkar (Anabaa-My Mo Rally, by Mi Preferido) who was a $155,000 yearling consigned from Widden Stud at the 2007 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne.
- And the US$2 million Gr2 UAE Derby field includes 3YO fillies Reem (Galileo-Al Afreet, by Danehill) & Mahbooba (Galileo-Sogha, by Red Ransom) who were both bred by their owner Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.
