Hybrid cars are a permanent part of the motoring scene, but could the same technology be applied to horse carriages?
An Austrian carriage driver has invested his time and energy to produce an electric hybrid horse carriage to give his horses some help when the going gets tough.
Mario Steiner, 43, carries tourists through the Tyrolean mountains near his home town of Matrei.
Austrian broadcaster ORF reports that Steiner set to work and, with the help of colleagues, incorporated a battery-powered motor to his carriage.
The horses pulling the carriage help charge the batteries when the motor is turned off.
When the motor is on, the motor helps the horses pull the carriage.
It took two years of work to come up with the design..
